Hotel Christiania Teater, Oslo, Norway – Junior Suite

Short overview video about our junior suite at Hotel Christiania Teater in Oslo.

Ok, but expectations not fulfilled…

With expectations it’s such a thing… If you expect something other than what you get, then you are disappointed. The question is, can you have a “slightly” higher expectation when you book the best room in the hotel?

The Hotel Christiania Teater is perfectly situated and would have the ideal conditions to be a “top hotel”. The reception was nice, but nothing more. Despite we’ve had “best category” the treatment wasn’t special f.e. taking the suitcases to the room or something else… Since we arrived by rental car, there was a little “stress” due to the parking / stopping ban in front of the hotel. As a guest you would wish for another solution.

Junior Suite Room No. 619

The suite was upstairs and with heavy suitcases – you had to master an intermediate staircase – rather difficult to reach. The first impression of the suite was good. The room layout and the cork decoration a little special. At second glance, however, we found that the cleaning was only superficial. We know that the cleaning staff is under pressure, but obvious traces of dirt in the corners or under the bed should already be removed, because these are the first traces that you see as a guest.

The record-summer we’ve felt also high up in the north – in Oslo. Since the suite was under the roof and the air conditioning was not working properly, the nights were not very relaxing. Either one slept “naked” under the blanket or simply with the short pyjamas over the blanket.

The breakfast buffet was excellent. A nice selection of bread, cereals, fruits, cold meat, eggs etc. was available. Tea or coffee (also cappuccino etc.) was available on request or self-service.

Norway is expensive. We knew that. In the price/performance ratio, however, the hotel is a little too expensive, especially for the suite category. More service is expected for the price.

Exceptional Hotel who takes care to the environment

We spent two nights at Clarion The Edge in Tromsø. Since we booked the trip at very short notice, the choice of rooms wasn’t exactly rosy. We got a corner room with a special layout – Room No. 1007. It was a special experience. More about it below…

Environmental Protection:

The Edge” attaches great importance to environmental protection so that the next generation can also have wonderful experiences. Not only the classics with the towels (e.g. lay on the floor = fresh towels) can do it there, but guests have the possibility to do without the room cleaning. This also saves environmental resources (cleaning agents, water, laundry, etc.). The saving effect that the hotel achieves on its staff is partly passed on. It supports charitable institutions with part of the money saved. This is not the first time that we have seen that Norwegians are setting a good example – other countries could definitely cut themselves some slack…

„The Edge” is located in Tromsø’s centre opposite the harbour terminal where the Hurtigruten ships arrive. In the same building is also the Hertz car rental Station and a few shops and a coffee bar. Within walking distance you can reach all sights as well as some good restaurants (see further reviews). The building is very modern and has some special refinements that you wouldn’t see otherwise, e.g. the shape. It has a rooftop bar on the 12th floor, but it was closed during our stay (snow on the terrace and was almost always dark anyway). The “Kitchen & Table” is both the house restaurant and the breakfast room. There is a spacious fitness center on the 2nd floor. In addition, there is free WIFI/W-LAN everywhere in the hotel complex.

As mentioned at the beginning, we had a corner room that was very special in its layout. But for our stay, 2 nights, it was quite ok. The cleanliness was good, but the bed was too soft for our taste. Maybe the mattress was just through? But we slept well because we were on the road a lot during the day (fresh air/movement) and therefore fell into bed dead tired. The other comforts (shampoo, body lotion, hair dryer etc.) corresponded to the 4-star comfort. The care products from Rituals deserve special mention.

The “Kitchen & Table” served us only as breakfast room. We went out for dinner twice. The breakfast selection left nothing to be desired. There was a large selection of bread, hot food, dried meat, salmon, fruits, muesli, yoghurt, drinks etc.. Since the hotel was relatively large, the rush in the morning is accordingly large.

If you are looking for an extraordinary hotel, you will find the right place in “The Edge”. The staff is very helpful and tries to fulfill all wishes of the guests. The good location and the thoughts around the topic of environmental protection round off the positive experience
