Hospitality is lived here!

Zarose Stellenbosch is a beautiful guesthouse in the Devon Valley about 10 minutes drive from Stellenbosch-Downtown, South Africa. The location of the guesthouse and the view of the Stellenbosch vineyards are amazing. A beautiful terrace with plenty of seating possibilities and a swimming pool invite you to enjoy the peace and quiet – just relax completely. The distance from downtown was no problem at all. You can either go to the wine tastings or have dinner with a chauffeur service organized by the hotel or by Uber. The good restaurants of Stellenbosch were anyway always a few driving minutes away from the center.

Room – Presidential Suite:

Our room, the Presidential Suite, was simply phenomenal. The size of the rooms, the beautiful bathroom and the three balconies almost tempt you not to want to leave it anymore :-). The main house offers several more rooms and then there is a little below the main house also cottages. We spent four nights here and were able to experience a perfect stay. The cleanliness corresponded to our ideas. The breakfast, prepared by the hostess Elizabeth herself, was very tasty.

The restaurant has only been open since last December, which would theoretically be the only point that could be criticized. Some organizational processes are not yet perfect. However, the two hosts, Elizabeth and John, do more than bet this aspect. They have managed to set up a company in the shortest possible time that we believe fullfils the following important points:
– Guest friendliness that can hardly be surpassed
– High degree of service readiness to fulllfil all wishes of the guests

We highly recommend a stay in Zarose and we would like to come back to this beautiful place.

Indian hospitality in Cape Town

Taj Hotel Cape Town is located in the centre of Cape Town, South Africa. Just opposite is the St. Georges Cathedral and the Companys Garden. Various attractions are within walking distance. However, in the evening it is recommended (hotel staff) to use either a taxi/Uber or the hotel transport service. However, we did not feel insecure during the day or at night. Of course, it is not advisable to walk at night with the most expensive clothes or with the golden Rolex on your wrist. That would be an invitation for bad girls/boys, which is also valid in other countries/cities…

There is an older part and a new building. We were accommodated in a club room in the old part of the building. Old sounds so negative because it wasn’t like that and the older part had a lot of style. On the second floor, where the club lounge and the club area were located, are also the club rooms. On the same floor there was also the fitness center and an indoor swimming pool. In the fitness room, there were various equipment (crosstrainer, treadmill) as well as equipment to steel his body. The indoor pool was about 20 meters long and had two lanes.

Right next to the lobby are the rooms for breakfast and a bar for the night owls. Also the restaurant Bombay, Indian specialities, was located on the same floor/ground floor.

We stayed in a Taj Club Room. Room No. 212. The shape of our room was like a hose. Relatively long, but big enough to accommodate us and two suitcases. The big king bed was very comfortable. There was a small office table to do his office work, but you can also relax in the comfortable seats. A well stocked mini-bar, a Nespresso coffee machine incl. capsules and some snacks were available in the room. But for club members it was rather superfluous, as from the beginning of breakfast until 19.00 o’clock in the evening there were always some small things, e.g. canapes, fruits etc. in the lounge.

The bathroom was beautifully furnished with the finest marble. A big bathtub invited to stay. Although there was a shortage of water in summer, we didn’t notice much except a few hints. Of course we took care and used as little water as possible. The other amenities: Shampoo (body/hair), body lotion, bath slippers, comfortable bathrobes and soft towels. All “must” criteria for a good 5-star hotel.

We had dinner at the Bombay Indian restaurant. It was very tasty, but with the menu it would help to give the “Indian-Food-beginners” an explanation card, so that one can also imagine which ingredients the dishes will contain :-). The service was unobtrusive and very attentive. Although we were registered as guests at the hotel, it is advisable to make a reservation because the restaurant seems to be very popular.

The breakfast buffet was very inviting and definitely worthy of 5 stars. Also other tastes (vegetarian/vegan) or allergy sufferers (lactose, gluten etc.) definitely got their taste. A special highlight is the children’s corner, where the little girls/boys could scoop their own flakes or other ingredients. Finally a hotel that also takes the little guests into consideration.

The in-house driving service was very pleasant. Against advance reservation one could communicate his desired route/time. If the chauffeur was available, one could profit “free of charge” from this extra service and drive a certain number of kilometres. At peak times even two hotel vehicles were on the road. A nice and pleasant plus that we liked to use.

The “very friendly and polite staff” completed the stay in Taj Cape Town. We have a positive impression of the Taj and would recommend it immediately.

Kambaku River Lodge, Malelane, Kruger National Park

Perfect six day stay @ Kambaku River Lodge!

What makes a great holiday? There are different pieces of the puzzle that have to be right to have a great holiday. At any rate, starting with the booking, one unconsciously develops an expectation, whether intentionally or not. Are the reviews really in tune with reality? Are the photos possibly improved with Photoshop etc.?

There is nothing wrong with the Kambaku River Lodge if we compare our expectations with our experiences. A really magical spot at the edge of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Right opposite the river, the park borders and offers the guest a wonderful view. This is additionally made even more attractive because the wild life that takes place behind the fence it’s incredibly beautiful. We saw during our stay – several times: elephants, hippos, giraffes, water buffalos, crocodiles, kudus, impalas. There is also an incredible variety of birds, ducks, storks etc.. Only lions, leopards, cheetahs or warthogs we’ve missed. Well, we still had a lot of luck and are not sad that we missed the others. We could have been “unlucky” and could not have seen any animals at all. But what I can hardly imagine that you won’t see anything… Of course you can also go to the Kruger in about 20 minutes driving time and drive directly in there to increase the chances again. We booked a half day (afternoon) and a full day safari directly at the lodge. Our guide was very good and also discovered unbelievable wildlife at a great distance during the trip.

What we liked very much about Kambaku Lodge was the fact that you could completely retreat and relax in your lodge. Not even at dinner there was a dress code or something. You can just be and enjoy. Just in time for the night’s rest, a small fire is lit that radiates a lot of romance, but also gives warmth. In the evening you quickly noticed a noticeable difference in temperature. Tip: to consider with the dress choice – it smells a little and could disturb someone.

The food, breakfast and dinner, were freshly prepared and always very tasty. You can also order a small lunch, as we only stayed two days in the lodge. Tip: a lodge is not a restaurant (no selection of menus), we recommend to make any special wishes, allergies etc. in advance. Of course, one can also take care of oneself, but with the meal prices, we preferred to be pampered rather than to cook by oneself. The meals reminded us very much of our youth. Simple menus, which could have been cooked by mummy. Yummie…!

The loving furnishing of the lodge and the details of the decorations have done us a favour. The bed was very comfortable. The cleanliness met our expectations.

We can highly recommend the Kambaku River Lodge. The price/performance ratio is definitely right. The hostess Leanne and the whole team around Martha, Anzelle etc. give you from A to Z the feeling of well-being that you know from home!

For one night OK

We spent one night in the Southern Sun O.R. because there was no more feeder flight to the Kruger National Park. The hotel completely fulfilled its purpose to spend a comfortable and carefree night. The hotel shuttle brought us to the terminal the next morning in time to continue our journey.

Hotel infrastructure:

The infrastructure of the hotel is in order. It was so far all neat and good at first glance. The lobby, the restaurant and the fitness center had all the comforts you would expect from a four-star hotel. The complex, as far as we could judge, was even handicapped accessible. In any case, there was a ramp that led to the elevators. As a Western European, one simply noticed the quality differences in the construction, but as already mentioned, everything was ok and clean so far.

We stayed in a Superior Room. Room No. 206. The room was equipped with a comfortable bed. The wardrobe was a bit plottering, but we didn’t use it anyway. The safe inside didn’t work – or maybe we were just too stupid to use it ;-). The bathroom and toilet were clean so far. The shower worked perfectly and you could meet your hygiene needs.

In the evening we went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The service was very attentive and the food good. Basically the staff was very friendly to us, but we did not miss the fact that the service did not treat all guests equally. We believe that regardless of race, religion or any other characteristic, every person should receive the same attention and respect.

For a short stay (1-2 nights) the hotel is suitable and can be recommended.
